Lancaster floral smocked belt – PDF sewing pattern – sizes XS-5XL

PDF sewing pattern + instructions to make the Lancaster belt. The Lancaster belt features a beautiful floral smocked centre detailing and closes with bow ties – which can either be worn at the back or front to showcase the bows. Worn at the waist, it adds a fun twist and texture to (summer) dresses, skirts and shirts.

Sizes: XS-5XL (EU 34-56, US 2-26) – please refer to the listing pictures for the measurements

Sewing level: intermediate, confident beginners with some sewing experience also welcome. Having some hand sewing experience will also be helpful in completing this pattern.

Fabric suggestions: medium weight fabric (plain woven, no stretch). Great choices would be: cotton, linen, ramie, poplin, lightweight denim or chambray, natural or artificial silk (duchess, taffeta), thin velvet. Cotton or linen will be easiest to work with if you are new to the floral smocking technique.

Floral smocking garment care:

Ultimately, garment care depends on the fabric you are using. Generally, dry cleaning is recommended for the crispest result of the floral smocking. However, hand washing also works well – after which you can steam the flowers back into shape (do NOT iron as that will flatten the flowers). I highly recommend making a small flower sample and do a test hand wash and steam to make sure you are happy with how your chosen fabric behaves in the washing process. For example, linen will wrinkle more during washing so it will require a bit more time and effort to steam the flowers vs polyester fibres which will wrinkle less.
