Styles: shoulder bag, crossbody bag, clutch / toiletry bag (please refer to the listing pictures for the measurements)
Sewing level: intermediate, confident beginners with some sewing experience also welcome. Having some hand sewing experience will also be helpful in completing this pattern.
Fabric suggestions:
Main fabric: medium weight fabric (plain woven, no stretch). Suggested: cotton, linen, ramie, poplin, denim or chambray, suiting fabric, natural or artificial silk (duchess, taffeta, satin, dupion), velvet, thin pleather. Cotton or linen will be easiest to work with if you are new to the floral smocking technique
Lining: thin to medium weight fabric (plain woven, no stretch), polyester, acetate, viscose, silk (crepe de chine, habotai), cotton
Interfacing: 150gsm non-woven interfacing, the bag will be structured but still have a little softness to it (also depends on main fabric usage). If you would like the bag to be stiffer, you can use a heavier interfacing, or less heavy if you prefer the bag to be more slouchy. The pattern uses non-fusible interfacing, which is sewn into the bag. This has been chosen because if you put an iron on the floral smocking, it will flatten them. However, you can also use fusible interfacing (or batting, foam interfacing), just don’t iron it to the floral pieces (but sew it in)
